Trailer | Viola Davis is ‘Becoming’ Michelle Obama

See what we did there? :) No pun intended, but the resemblance is real. And the joy that black women everywhere are feeling as a result of the news that a drama series chronicling the life of our forever first lady, is big.

Showtime announces anthology series “The First Lady”, coming Spring of 2022.

Oscar / Emmy winning actress Viola Davis will deliver the role of Obama, exploring her 8 years at The White House.

The series, which is also executive produced by Davis, began filming at the top of the year. The aim will unfold the story of American leadership through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House, The First Ladies.

We will also see Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford, while Gillian Anderson takes on the role of Eleanor Roosevelt.

Via Showtime:

"In the East Wing of the White House, many of history's most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America's charismatic, complex and dynamic first ladies. This series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of these enigmatic women"

Check out the first look, at the The First Lady:

While preparing to bring Michelle to life on screen, Viola is enjoying the ride while taking the task extremely serious.

"I feel very protective of Michelle," She said. "It's our job as actors not to judge whoever we are portraying, but I ended up thinking she's just dope."

Obama says she’s honored by the selection. "I feel that I'm not worthy. I wish I could be better to live up to the character that Viola has to play, but it's exciting," she said in an interview earlier this week. "Anything Viola does, she does it with passion and vigor, and I know she will do no less for this role."

We are just as excited. This is Black Girl Magic. Catch Season 1 of The First Lady on Showtime, premiering April 17.
